Nattie Trogdon + Hollis Bartlett
Contemporary
Biography:
Nattie Trogdon + Hollis Bartlett are partners in both life and their creative endeavors. Based in Lenapehoking (currently known as Brooklyn, NY), they construct dance works, films and research based practices aimed to disrupt assumptions of performance and personhood. Their work has been presented at venues such as Gibney, CPR, Snug Harbor, SCDT, Judson Church, and Future Dance Festival at 92nd Street Y among others. They’ve been in residence at LMCC's Arts Center at Governors Island, the 14th St Y, Marble House, Atlantic Center for the Arts, and Mana Contemporary. As educators they've been guest artists at universities throughout the country, and commissioned by Roger Willams, Montclair State, University of Maryland & Salem State. Nattie + Hollis are currently adjunct faculty at SUNY Purchase and Montclair State and run the artist-led class space - skewl. Nattie is a Nuyorican, born and raised in rural North Carolina. After graduating high school at UNCSA, she received her BFA from SUNY Purchase. Hollis, born in Illinois and raised in Massachusetts, received his BFA from NYU. He spent 12 years as a performer and rehearsal director for Doug Varone.Class Description:
This class is a deeply researched exploration of our past and present selves through improvisational scores that we have developed through our making and performance practices. These scores are rooted in our research of effort, subversion, and formalism, and create a container for us to practice being present with each other - practice moving into and through and with ourselves. Every body contains multitudes, and this class is a space to expand into our artistic curiosities (both individual and collective) while acknowledging that everyone in the room has knowledge that is vital and necessary for building this space together.
